Museum on Main Street
The Smithsonian is to Kansas in 2025!
Humanities Kansas is bringing Americans, a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition to Kansas for an exclusive tour August 2025 – July 2026.
Americans is based on the exhibition of the same name currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). Curated by Paul Chaat Smith (Comanche) and Cécile R. Ganteaume, the exhibit uncovers the many ways American Indian images, names, and stories have been part of the nation’s identity since before the country began.
The partnership between the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on Main Street program and Humanities Kansas extends the conversation about history, heritage, and ideas to communities statewide. High quality national exhibitions designed for small museums and other cultural organizations provide a springboard for explorations of local history and traditions, including highlights, turning points, and challenges. These local stories add to the larger national story to help us better understand American values and ideas.
