Statement on Federal Funding, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Humanities Kansas
On April 2, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) terminated federal funding for Humanities Kansas through the National Endowment for the Humanities. As a result, Humanities Kansas will be forced to significantly scale back or cut grants, programs, and operations.
Humanities Kansas is the sole statewide provider of humanities resources in Kansas. Since 1972, Humanities Kansas, in partnership with NEH, has supported HK’s Humanities For All and Action grants, Speakers Bureau, TALK book discussions, community oral history projects, preservation projects, Smithsonian exhibition tours, veterans’ initiatives, and other one-of-a-kind grassroots projects.
Humanities Kansas remains open and continues to offer limited resources, but future funding is at risk. Check this page for updates.
