Langston’s Lawrence
Produced by Through A Looking Glass Productions and the Watkins Museum of History with the support of an HK Humanities For All Grant.
Lawrence in northeast Kansas was home to Langston Hughes during his boyhood years. Hughes stated that to understand his poetry you need to also understand his childhood in Lawrence. Although Lawrence was a free-settlement that attracted many Black Americans, the region also attracted racism and segregation.
