Smithsonian Exhibition: The Way We Worked
Humanities Kansas has partnered with the Smithsonian to bring national exhibitions to small town and rural communities through a program called, Museum on Main Street. A particular exhibition that traveled around rural Kansas was “The Way We Worked,” which displayed the working histories and cultures in Kansas communities, like the Lyons in south central Kansas and the mining community of Franklin in southeast Kansas.
“The Way We Worked” illuminated our work histories that are deeply linked to a broader understanding of cultures and economies in Kansas. Through the humanities, individuals get a strong sense of place, identity, and community.
