Produced by Kingman County Historical Society, Kingman, and Hometown Collaborations with the support of an HK Humanities For All Grant.
Kansas innovator Clyde Cessna is compared to influencers like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison because of Cessna’s dedication to improving the standards of aviation in the early 20th century. Although Cessna’s background originated in the automotive industry, Cessna was enchanted by aviation. After perfecting his wooden plane, Cessna had his first successful flight in 1911 and shortly thereafter established Cessna Airplane Company in Wichita.
