The Kansas State Penitentiary: An Institution and a Neighbor

Produced by the Lansing Historical Museum and HomeTown Collaborations with the support of an HK Humanities For All Grant.

The Lansing Correctional Facility in Leavenworth County has developed a symbiotic relationship with the communities of Lansing, Kansas.  Built in 1864, the correctional facility grounds are also home to the Lansing Historical Museum as well as the Lansing Fire Department, which is one way the correctional facility has established connections between the diverse stories of the community.

To learn about the various ways the town of Lansing and the Lansing Correctional Facility have relied on each other, watch the documentary, The Kansas State Penitentiary: An Institution and a Neighbor.
